Detangling is important but it can get a whole process for some wavy and curly heads.
With these tips detangling will be an easy and fast(er) job to do!
Detangling your hair before you shampoo can be a real asset. Part your hair in 4 or more parts and gently use your fingers to detangle (a wide tooth comb is also great) but don't touch a smaller comb just yet.
You can also do this during a pre-poo treatment which i highly recommend since a lot of people are not a fan of dry detangling, but using natural oils will help you get rid of knots without having to make your hair fragile with water. Yes hair is most fragile when it's wet!
Tangled/matted hair can get worse when wet from shampoo or water! Also shampoo can create the tangles so it's best to detangle before with your fingers some oil and/or a wide tooth comb and after you shampoo with a normal comb or your fingers ofcourse.
My favorite pre-poo oils:
A lot of people are confused about what their hairtype actually is, well things can get very interesting on your scalp! and almost all my clients deal with mutiple hairtypes! this is completly normal.
So offcourse we got what we call type 1, which is straight hair type 2 which is more wavy, type 3 that's more of a bigger curl or loop and typ 4 which are smaller curls or zigzag curls, but each and every type can have a fine, medium or thicker structure.
A fine, thinner hair structure doesn't need as much product to hold a style as a medium structure, with too much product the hair cant really hold volume or the curl in place, always try out light weight products before you move on to heavy gels.
Same goed for a thick structure, it can have trouble holding your curls in it's shape. Only in this case you might want to use more product. This can be more of a lightweight product if you are lower in porosity or a normal amount of a heavier product like a creme or butter if you are higher in porosity.
This can make or break the volume and shape of your curls! so please don't be scared to try out new things when it comes to product use.
With a medium structure your hair can take a normal 'dime size' amount of product and it will be able to hold your curls into place easier.

Lets talk hair care!
A deep conditioner a.k.a a hair mask is a staple you should have in your house to use at any time.
Deep conditioners can save the day or even the season when your hair is feeling down or just need that extra love.
There is a down side on deep conditioning that i want to talk about in this blog, when using a deep conditioner wrong it will back fire and make your hair strands very weak which will turn out into breakage.
Nothing to be afraid about but something to be aware of to choose yours carefully, ingredients and frequency of use is important.
Also a very much discussed topic are deep conditioners with protein, and how to use them.
I recommend anyone with a high porosity hair type to definitly deep condition with a protein product once every week. and switch to a deep conditioner based on vitamins once every month to keep the balance. Please don't leave your deep conditioner in for too long. 30 till 40 minutes is more than enough time for your hair to absord the benefits of the product.
I recommend anyone with low porosity hair to deep condition every other week and use a deep conditioner without protein. Plan a washday where you are going to use protein every other month. This also depends on the state of your hair, maybe in the winter time your hair will benefit more of protein.
With a medium porosity this is something you can play with, and don't forget to listen to your hair. spoil your curls with a mask every week but it's okay to just use a conditioner if your hair feels strong, and flexible.
Self made:
A mask is easy to make yourself with natural ingredients you have at home i will add a few examples.
Looking for a deep co with and without protein? i got you.

On my instagram @hairbyissavia i share weekly content and the post and updates will be able to see on my website and facebook group: issavia natural hair care where we also can stay in touch.

]]>Long time no see loves,
A lot has been going on because of Covid-19 and i had to take care of a few things in regards of the restrictions but today i want to answer a much asked question that i get from a lot of type 2-3 hair curlies....
Its all about VOLUME at the top of their hair! why does my hair stay curly at the end and not at the roots? and how do i get more volume or curls !?
I will try to answer this question today so you can still create a lovely christmass hairstyle ;)
First off all, every one has different hair follicle
The deeper your follicle is ''planted'' inside your scalp the more chance of a c pattern inside your skin. The deeper this is rooted the more your hair will curl from the roots. This can change over the years ! it can also change by using chemical products... you can even kill your hair follicle if you bring enough damage and no hair will grow there ever again... so we have to kinda be grateful with what we have here.
Okay but how can i create more volume if my hair follicle is not that curly?
My first answer would be layers!
BUT this ain't for everyone. Ask your hair dresser which type of layers would fit your hair type. Be aware that 'How shorter your hair the more curls will appear' is NOT working for everyone... Sometimes your curls just love length and wont really curl on shorter hair.
You might want to start with low layers to see if that makes any difference.
Diffuse upside down!
This really works for 99% of the curly people. If you have type 4 hair this probably won't be necessary but for type 2-3 it does work magic.
Pick it out!
Get yourself a wide tooth comb or afro comb and pick the roots when your hair is completely dry! curls have a way of ''maximizing'' (also works amazing on day 2/3 hair)
Wishing you a merry christmas and a happy new year!
]]>Happy sunday,
today i want to shine a light on a different perspective of hair growth because this seems to be something a lot of people are struggling with.
besides a good routine and use of the right products which i can help you with on www.issavia.com i want to bring the attention to our health within. why? because this is more important than most people think.
Our diets have huge impact on the quality of our hair. For example: i pay attention to my diet and i make sure i eat enough protein etc. but when i used to also use lots of products with protein this created a protein overload super FAST.
Our stress levels.. stress can easily express it self in out hair, hair loss is one of the most popular results of stress. Blood-flow will be interrupted when you experience stress and your hair growth will slow down as a result.
We may not always be aware of our stress level so please keep paying attention to your mental health, its more important than we might think. a consistent routine can also make great positive changes in hair growth. If you don't see results in length right away, be patient... give a routine at least 6 months. Definitely when we haven't used the right products and routines for 10+ years.. give your hair some time.

]]>Happy sunday,
For a long time i was searching for a webshop in the Netherlands that gave me the option to select products based on porosity... i couln't find one. So ever since i launched the website this idea have been on my mind and as you know i became a retailer for Curly Secret.
This gave me the opportunity to create this option for my clients. no more trying out products to see if the ingredients work... no more wasting money.
Select your hair porosity and see all the products fit for you! shampoo's, masks, gels everything.
i'm happy to be able to make this happen! Visit www.issavia.com to see what would fit your hair care regimen.
]]>Hairbyissavia FINALLY found a great product brand to use in the salon. I was searching for a brand that first off all is vegan, this is so important for me because i do not want to take risk on ingredients, i want everything to be paraben, sulfate, silicone free and free from bad alcohols.
other than that i think its so important a brand has products for every porosity type, y'all know i am all about porosity so this is a big deal for me.
I don't really care about hair type but it's definitely true that some brands don't really fit all hairtypes so i made sure i also checked that box.
Over the years i tried, many.. and i mean MANY products and i have been using this brand for a few years now. I have to say this brand keeps evolving and they listen to their customers to keep creating the best range of products and i can not wait to tell you more about this.
But first, i want to give a HUGE thankyou to them for giving small business owners the possibility to partner with them. That's amazing and i am forever thankful.
Curly Secret
Curlysecret.nl is a dutch webshop that sells hair products and accesoires, from now on my clients will be able to purchase their products by me. 100% natural and NO animal testing.
Also, a few ingredients i mention in my hairguides are included in some of the products so that's amazing and i will talk more about that in my upcoming product review.
i can not wait to welcome my clients and work with Curly secret! i still got a lot of new products to try out and i am so exited to let you meet the styling and haircare line of this beautiful brand.
I often upload product reviews on my instagram @hairbyissavia
Hi loves,
Some of y'all already have seen me use my steamer but i still get a lot of questions about it.
I want to talk to you about the use of a hair steamer and what i will do for your hair.
Do you need a hair steamer?
Yes and no, if you have high porosity hair i would NOT recommend a steamer since it will open your hair cuticles even more and you really don't want that because that's where moisture gets LOST.
If you have medium to low porosity hair, a steamer can come in very handy when you want to help lock in the moisture or refresh your curls.
Low porosity hair has closed cuticles that have a hard time to let moisture in, steam (or any other source of heat: plastic bag, hooded dryer) can lift the cuticle and allow moisture to enter the hairshaft which makes it easier for the product to bring the benefits straight in to your curl.
There are different type of steamers. The one i have right now is a Breuer and it's a facial steamer so i also use it on my face but it works wonders for my hair as well.
In the Netherlands there is no hooded steamer available just yet but if you are from the U.S you can get a much better steamer as well.
Medium porosity can benefit from a hair steamer in fall/winter times where your hair just gets dry. I use it after wash day and in between if i choose to twist my hair.
DISCLAIMER:
Always use destilled water in your steamer.
]]>Hi loves,
What do you know about moisture and protein balance? This might be the answer to the reasons your hair lost its definition, stretch or even its LIFE.
Low,medium of high porosity... balance is always key to health.
So why do we need protein? Our hair is basically made out of protein but sometimes it needs a little bit more help from the outside. Protein makes sure the moisture is being locked in our hair, it also makes our hair stronger en gives our curls more definition.... BUT once you use to much of it... your hair will break easily.
Moisture gives us flexibility and nurtures our curls. We need this to keep our hair from drying and it's pretty much the water to your plants.
But how do you keep both in balance?
well i got a simple template made for this. if you check the boxes you probably need to check your routine again. add more protein or add more moisture based products. This can be solved with a deep conditioner once ever month or a protein treatment.
In my low medium and high porosity hair routines i made monthly routines so you can stay in balance consistently!
